Napoli are prepared to make a fresh bid for Cagliari midfielder Nicolo Barella, who has been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea in the transfer window this month.

Speculation surrounding the Italian midfielder’s future has reached fever pitch in recent teams as he appears to edge towards the Cagliari exit door.

Maurizio Sarri wants to take the 21-year-old midfielder to Chelsea and the club are rumoured to be closing in on his signature as the replacement for Cesc Fabregas.

Inter have also been keeping tabs on the player, but the Serie A giants are not interested in taking part in an expensive auction for Barella in the winter window.

Napoli have been strongly following the midfielder and, according to Italian outlet Calciomercato.com, they are not ready to give up on the chase to sign the Cagliari midfielder.

It has been claimed that the San Paolo-outfit are plotting to table a fresh bid worth €40m for the midfielder and are ready to go head-to-head with Chelsea for him.

Cagliari would prefer to hold on to the player until the summer, but they will sell if any of his suitors meet their €50m valuation of the midfielder.

Despite rumours of him being close to joining Chelsea, Barella’s future still remains undecided for the moment.
