Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has revealed the most important thing he likes about the Gers’ winter-recruit Steven Davis and insists it will be handy to have at Ibrox this term.

Davis has sealed his return to Scotland after putting pen to paper on a six-month loan deal with Rangers, taking advantage of the January transfer window.

The midfielder had fallen down the pecking order at Southampton after being restricted to just three appearances in the Premier League and joined Rangers to play his part in the Gerrard revolution.

Despite spending six years on the south coast, Davis is no stranger to the Ibrox faithful after making around 200 appearances and becoming the club captain during his first spell in Glasgow.

Gerrard, who is delighted with the signing of Davis, revealed that he is an admirer of Davis’ ability to keep the ball during any given situation.

The Gers boss lauded Davis for his combative nature in midfield and believes that his leadership and responsibility will help Rangers in the second half of the season.

“Steven was a player who was competitive in the middle of the pitch, he had tonnes of energy and never stopped”, Gerrard told the club’s official website.

“But the important ingredient that I like about him is that he will always have the ball.

“Win, lose or draw and whatever stage the game is at, he will always take that responsibility and show that leadership.

"I think that’s what we need in there.”

Davis, who spent four seasons at Ibrox before joining Southampton, won eight trophies during his first spell with Rangers.
