Liverpool midfielder James Milner believes Ki-Jana Hoever has what it takes to be a top player.

The Dutchman, who is just 16 years old, became the youngest player to feature for Liverpool in the FA Cup after he replaced Dejan Lovren in the 2-1 defeat against Wolves on Monday.

Jurgen Klopp made nine changes to the team that lost to Manchester City, but the Reds were sluggish in the game and were dumped out of the cup by Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.

Hoever had a nervy start to the game, but settled in well and looked comfortable on the ball for a large part of the game.

Milner believes Hoever showed good temperament while playing as a centre-back, was relaxed on the ball, and feels the teenager can go on to become a top player.

“Ki coming on and playing like he did was absolutely outstanding”, Milner told Liverpool’s official website.

“He’s going to be a top, top player – you can see that straight away.

"His temperament, he’s comfortable on the ball."

Hoever has made big strides since joining the club in the summer of 2018 and has made five appearances in the UEFA Youth League.
