Chelsea have slapped in a preliminary enquiry for Boca Juniors midfielder Nahitan Nandez, the player Cagliari have been linked with wanting to replace Nicolo Barella with.

Barella has been at the centre of a huge transfer saga as he has been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea, with Napoli also interested in signing him.

Cagliari are aware that they could lose the 21-year-old midfielder and have quickly moved to make sure they have a replacement lined up in the form of Boca Juniors midfielder Nandez.

It has been claimed that Cagliari have an agreement in place with Boca Juniors for €18m and have also prepared a five-year deal for the midfielder but the deal remains stalled at the moment.

The Serie A outfit want to sign Nandez once Barella is sold, but Boca Juniors do not want to wait and, according to Italian outlet Calciomercato.it, Chelsea have poked their noses into the negotiations.

The west London club have probed the possibility of signing the Uruguayan midfielder from Boca Juniors, but their enquiry is only at the preliminary stage and nothing concrete has developed.

Cagliari are sweating over the deal at the moment as Barella does not want to leave until the summer but Boca Juniors want a deal for Nandez concluding soon.

With Chelsea getting involved, the Serie A outfit are in danger of missing out on a long term target.
