Leeds United are unlikely to sign Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster during the January transfer window, it has been claimed.

The 30-year-old goalkeeper lost his place in the Southampton team midway through last season and has become a peripheral figure at the club.

Forster is no longer part of the first team set-up this season and Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl has indicated that he is free to leave the club in the winter window.

Leeds have prioritised signing a goalkeeper this month and Forster has been linked with a move to Elland Road, but it seems a deal is unlikely to happen.

According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Forster is not the goalkeeper Leeds want to sign during the January transfer window, despite him being available.

The Whites are canvassing the market for a shot-stopper who can compete with Bailey Peacock-Farrell for the number one shirt at Elland Road in the latter half of the season.

Leeds signed Jamal Blackman from Chelsea on loan last summer but he suffered a serious injury earlier in the season and returned to his parent club.

Forster is looking for a new club in January but Leeds look unlikey to be his destination.
