Andy Halliday has lauded the physical shape of Rangers new boy Jermain Defoe, who he expects to score goals in a light blue shirt in Scotland.

Gers boss Steven Gerrard wanted to bring in another striker in this month's transfer window and recently landed Defoe, taking the hitman from Premier League outfit Bournemouth on an 18-month loan agreement.

Some eyebrows have been raised at Rangers signing a 36-year-old, but Halliday, who has seen Defoe at close quarters at the club's winter training camp in Tenerife, has no doubt over the Englishman's physical shape.

And the Gers star has backed Defoe to find the back of the net in Scottish football.

"It’s a massive signing for the club and you can still see he is still fit and healthy regardless of the age he is", Halliday told Rangers TV.

"Wherever he has gone he has scored goals, he’s got over 150 Premier League goals.

"It’s exciting because we have done well for the first six months but we are actually going to get better."

All eyes will be on whether Defoe starts up top with Alfredo Morelos for Rangers or battles the Colombian for a starting spot at Ibrox.

Bournemouth do have two options included in the loan to recall Defoe, which can be activated in the summer or in the 2020 January transfer window.
