Former Celtic striker Frank McAvennie has revealed he is impressed by Vakoun Issouf Bayo, who has joined the Bhoys on a permanent deal from Dunajska Streda.

Brendan Rodgers’ men have bolstered their ranks with the addition of the young attacking trio of Oliver Burke, Timothy Weah and Bayo during the winter transfer window.

The Bhoys were in desperate need of options at the top following the departure of Moussa Dembele, who left for Lyon in the summer, and after Leigh Griffiths decided to take time off owing to personal reasons.

Despite their inability to beat Rangers in the Glasgow derby ahead of the winter break, Celtic continue to lead the race for the title and McAvennie feels the new arrivals can benefit them in the second half of the season.

The former Bhoy revealed he is impressed with Bayo and also claimed that Rodgers could opt to play the striker alongside Weah to shuffle things at the top.

“I think Bayo looks a great player from what I have seen”, McAvennie was quoted as saying by the Herald.

“And Weah reminds me a bit of myself.

"Apparently, Brendan is wanting to get things over the top.

“I haven’t seen that for years.

"I haven’t even heard anyone talk like that for years.”

Bayo, who is still only 22, was directly involved in 25 goals from 23 appearances in all competitions for Dunajska Streda this term.
