Napoli are pushing forward with their attempts to sign Chelsea midfield target Nicolo Barella from Cagliari during the January transfer window.

The 21-year-old midfielder is a subject of a major transfer saga, with at least two top European clubs interested in snaring him away from Cagliari this month.

Barella is one of the midfielders Chelsea are eyeing as a replacement for Cesc Fabregas, but the club are yet to make a definitive decision on whether to sign him.

It seems Napoli are sure about their willingness to get their hands on Barella and it has been claimed that they are set to provide a major push to land him in January.

According to Italian sports daily Gazzetta dello Sport, Napoli are prepared to table a fresh bid of around €40m and offer a player to Cagliari as part of the deal.

Napoli have also scheduled a meeting with his agent and have prepared a five-year contract worth €3m per season for Barella.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis is also set to call his Cagliari counterpart to convince him to sell the midfielder to the San Paolo outfit.

The Serie A giants are serious about signing the midfielder and are willing to grease the wheels to make sure they get their man in January.
