Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has insisted that centre-back Joe Worrall will not return to Nottingham Forest this month and will see out the season at Ibrox.

Worrall signed for the Gers on a season-long loan deal from Nottingham Forest last summer, but was linked with a move back to the City Ground.

Nottingham Forest have a dearth of resources at the back and it was suggested that new manager Martin O’Neill might recall Worrall.

The Gers have used Worrall to good effect this season as the centre-half has featured in 11 Scottish Premiership games so far.

Gerrard has quashed any suggestion that Worrall might be on his way back to England after revealing that Gers have spoken to Nottingham Forest to keep the player for the remainder of his loan spell.

We have spoken to Nottingham Forest, Joe will remain here until the end of the season.

“He was superb in the Old Firm match and we are happy with the job he has done”, Gerrard told a press conference ahead of Rangers’ clash against Cowdenbeath.

Worrall is in line to feature against Cowdenbeath in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup on Friday as the Gers return to competitive action following the winter break.
