Former Liverpool forward Neil Mellor has refused to rule Tottenham Hotspur out of the title race and feels they are still just about in it.

The Lilywhites lost at home to Manchester United in their last Premier League game on Sunday it has left them nine points adrift of league leaders Liverpool.

The Reds, on the other hand, picked up a narrow 1-0 win against Brighton to bounce back from back to back defeats.

Tottenham are currently third in the league table and Mellor does still think they are in the title picture, but has admitted that it feels like a two-horse race between Liverpool and Manchester City.

Mellor, assessing the title picture with Liverpool firmly in it, said on LFC TV's Review Show: “They [Spurs] are still on the periphery, aren’t they?

“When you look at it [the table], you’d say yes, they are still just about in that race, maybe you can say the same about Chelsea.

“But, it very much feels like it’s a two-horse race.

"The good thing is we’re doing all we can.

“We’ve responded to the defeat against Manchester City superbly well with the three points down at Brighton.”

Spurs will have to keep up with Liverpool and Manchester City without Harry Kane, who picked up an ankle injury against Manchester United and will not be available until March.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side will next take on Fulham away from home and will hope to bounce back from their last defeat.
