Mohamed Salah insists Liverpool need to be mentally strong after they were made to work hard for a 4-3 win over Crystal Palace at Anfield.

Crystal Palace stunned Liverpool by grabbing the lead in the 34th minute when Andros Townsend struck.

It was a goal from nothing as Wilfried Zaha surged past James Milner and cut the ball back for Townsend, who powered his effort past Alisson in the Reds goal.

But Salah made sure Liverpool would get the second half off to the best possible start when he prodded the Reds level in the 47th minute.

Roberto Firmino then put Liverpool ahead in the 53rd minute as he finished well, but Palace drew level in the 65th minute, James Tomkins heading past Alisson from a corner.

Liverpool rallied however and Salah struck again following poor goalkeeping from Julian Speroni in the 75th minute.

The Reds were reduced to ten men with a minute left, James Milner being shown a second yellow card for a bad challenge on Zaha.

But Liverpool had enough to grab a fourth, Sadio Mane finishing after good work from Andrew Robertson.

The drama did not die though and Palace scored at the death through Max Meyer to make it 4-3.

Liverpool are now seven points clear at the top of the league table and Salah admits that the Reds will need to keep showing mental strength.

He said on Sky Sports: "Honestly we expected a difficult game but they played well and they were compact in front of the box.

"In the end the most important thing is the result, conceding three goals is hard but we need to accept that and live with it.

"We have to be strong mentally.

"This is a tough time for us and we have to talk and be strong.

"We played well today and deserved the game", Salah added.
