Jermain Defoe says he is delighted to have made his debut for Rangers, after he featured in the Gers' 3-2 friendly win over HJK Helsinki at Ibrox on Sunday.

Rangers landed Defoe on an 18-month loan deal from Premier League side Bournemouth earlier this month and Gers fans have been keen to see him in action.

Rangers' Scottish Cup tie at Cowdenbeath was postponed on Friday, meaning Defoe had to wait until Sunday to make his unofficial debut.

Defoe lined up in Rangers' first half team in front of 21,224 fans at Ibrox, but did not get on the scoresheet as Scott Arfield, Nikola Katic and Daniel Candeias struck.

He was delighted to get out onto the pitch in a light blue shirt however and wrote on Twitter: "Nice to make my Rangers debut today!

"Thank you to all the fans, can't wait for a league game next", Defoe added.

The striker will not have to wait long for a taste of Scottish Premiership action as Rangers are set to play Kilmarnock away from home on Wednesday night.

Rangers fans will be hoping Defoe can hit the ground running.
