Nottingham Forest legend Kenny Burns believes that the standard of football Joe Worrall will be experiencing in Scotland with Rangers is not the best, but has backed the defender to nevertheless learn from the spell.

The 22-year-old was sent out on loan to Scotland to join the Glasgow giants last summer and has been handed regular game time by Steven Gerrard.

Burns, who has seen talented young players at Forest, such as Jamaal Lascelles, Karl Darlow, Michael Dawson and Britt Assombalonga, insists that the club cannot afford to lose another one and must have Worrall back as soon as his spell with the Gers ends.

“I’ve said all along, Joe Worrall is a future Nottingham Forest captain", Burns wrote in his column for the Nottingham Post.

“If Rangers do want to buy him in the summer, I’d be telling them where to go. I’d have him back at the club in a heartbeat.

“He’ll have learnt a lot being on loan at Rangers, but I’d like to see him back and playing for Forest next season.

“I think he’ll be able to learn a lot from Michael Dawson, with all the experience he has got.

“Rangers are a big club. The standard of football isn’t the best in Scotland, but it is still a big club and Worrall will be better for the experience.

“He’ll be playing alongside good players, and against good players whenever Rangers face Celtic.

"He’ll know how much those games mean to people up there."

Worrall has been keen to stress his desire to return to Nottingham Forest after his loan stint with Rangers ends, but it remains to be seen if the Gers may try to change his mind.
