Tottenham Hotspur star Jan Vertonghen has admitted the Spurs players want to play in front of a vociferous crowd during the home leg against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men shift their focus back to Europe when they host Bundesliga table-toppers Borussia Dortmund during their first leg last 16 Champions League clash at Wembley on Wednesday.

The north Londoners have won three straight games since their shock exit from the FA Cup against Crystal Palace and will be eyeing a better finish than their round of 16 exit in Europe last season.

However, Lucien Favre’s men have established themselves as the major force in Germany this term and will make for stern opposition when the two teams take the field on Wednesday night.

Prior to the meeting between the sides, Vertonghen has told the fans the Spurs players want to play in front of one of the best crowds in the world when they lock horns with Dortmund.

The Belgian also admitted it helps when the stadium is full and hostile and went on to insist the Spurs fans will ensure that is the case against Dortmund on Wednesday.

“It definitely helps when the stadium is full and rocking. I bet we’ll see that tomorrow”, Vertonghen said in a press conference.

“It’s a great fixture for everyone.

"It’s what we all became footballers for.

“We want to play big games like this in one of the best stadiums in the world in Wembley.

"We want one of the best crowds in the world behind us.”

Tottenham will be without the services of both Harry Kane and Dele Alli, who continue to be unavailable due to injury, against Dortmund on Wednesday.
