Sunderland winter-recruit Will Grigg says that he backs himself to score from almost all chances and insists there is plenty to come after netting his first goal for the Black Cats.

Grigg, who arrived at the Stadium of Light from Wigan Athletic on transfer deadline day in January, had to wait until his fourth appearance in League One to bag his first goal for Sunderland.

The 27-year-old netted a penalty in the 66th minute during the 4-2 win over Gillingham on Tuesday to help Sunderland put an end to a disappointing run of three straight draws.

And after finally breaking his duck for the Black Cats, Grigg has admitted he is benefitting from playing regular football at Sunderland, compared to his season at Wigan in the Championship.

“Yes, I think so [I’m being more involved and getting more chances after getting regular playing time at Sunderland compared to Wigan]”, Grigg told the club’s official website.

“I probably only started two games in three months before coming here and then I’ve played four in 10 days or two weeks, so it’s a little bit of that.”

Grigg even went on to claim that he backs himself to score from almost all chances that fall to him and insists there is plenty more to come from him in Sunderland colours after finally getting off the mark.

“But I back myself to score these chances 99 out of 100 times, it’s just one of those things, sometimes you go on a little period and that was my little patch”, he continued.

“But like I said, I actually feel I’ve been playing quite well, my overall game has been okay and if keep getting in the right areas, keep getting the chances, I’ll score goals.

“And I’m sure there’s still plenty to come.”

Sunderland will next face relegation battlers Bristol Rovers away from home on Saturday in League One.
