Rangers legend Ian Durrant feels the Gers have dropped too far behind Celtic, and need the Hoops to lose at least four games to have any chance to catch up.

The Gers were held at home by St. Johnstone in their last league game, while Celtic beat Kilmarnock to extend their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership to eight points.

Heading into the winter break, the two rivals were level on points, though Celtic had a game in hand at the time.

Since the restart Celtic have been more consistent than Steven Gerrard’s side, and have won all six of their league games.

Durrant believes that Rangers have dropped too many points at home, and they now need Celtic to lose four games to stand any chance in the Premiership title race.

“I would never say it’s over but when I heard Steven Gerrard’s comments post-match comments I think he was looking for a reaction”, Durrant was quoted as saying by the Evening Times.

“Eight points is a big gap to bridge and if we’re brutally honest then Rangers have dropped too many points at home.

“And if Rangers have any aspirations of trying to catch Celtic then they need to go put a run together and hope there’s twists and turns.

“You’re looking at Celtic having to probably lose four games – with two Old Firm fixtures to come – and they haven’t done that yet.”

Rangers take on Hamilton in their next league game, but have a tricky test against Kilmarnock in a Scottish Cup replay before that.
