Stoke City boss Nathan Jones has revealed he spoke to the Potters' squad about emulating Liverpool in terms of having players come off the bench and make an impact.

Liverpool were in action on Friday night at Southampton and secured a 3-1 win after Jurgen Klopp brought Jordan Henderson and James Milner off the bench on the hour mark on the south coast.

Jones feels Liverpool had game changers off the bench against the Saints and admits he spoke to Stoke about it before they locked horns with Blackburn Rovers on Saturday, a game they won 1-0; Jones brought Sam Clucas, Ashley Williams and Sam Vokes off the bench.

"We brought Ashley Williams on and I thought he was magnificent, and I thought [Sam] Clucas worked hard considering he's been out for such a long time", Jones was quoted as saying by the Sentinel.

"That’s what we need. We mentioned to them yesterday about Liverpool and Jordan Henderson and game changers.

"The two came on and added steel to us."

Stoke sit in 15th in the Championship standings after taking 51 points from their 40 league games so far this season.

Jones will be looking for his men to rise to the occasion once again on Tuesday night when they take on Graham Potter's Swansea City side at the Liberty Stadium.
