Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer has warned the Bhoys must prepare themselves to win the physical battle against Aberdeen before they can earn the right to play their football during the Scottish Cup semi-final on Sunday.

Neil Lennon’s men shift their focus to Hampden Park on Sunday, when they meet Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup semi-final, as they aim to move one step closer to completing a treble treble.

The Bhoys were held to a 0-0 draw in their last game against Livingston on Saturday and will be eyeing bouncing back in style against the Dons on Sunday.

However, Derek McInnes’ men have impressed against both Glasgow clubs in recent meetings and will be aiming to get one over Celtic after losing to them in the Scottish League Cup final earlier this season.

Ahead of the showdown between the sides at Hampden, Ajer has admitted Celtic will have to win the physical battle against Aberdeen before they can think of playing their brand of football.

The 20-year-old conceded that Aberdeen are in great form at the moment and stressed it will be a difficult game, while also lauding Sam Cosgrove for his impressive form this season for the Dons.

“He [Cosgrove] has done really well this season”, Ajer was quoted as saying by the Evening Times.

“We know Aberdeen are in great form right now and they will make it really difficult.

“It will be a battle and we have to win the physical battle before you earn the right to play.”

Celtic ran out 1-0 winners, courtesy of Ryan Christie’s goal, when the two sides met at Hampden for the Scottish League Cup final back in December.
