Jurgen Klopp believes his Liverpool team conceded too many set pieces against FC Porto, but is still pleased with a 2-0 win that puts the Reds in control of their Champions League quarter-final tie.

It took just five minutes for Liverpool to surge in front at Anfield, with Roberto Firmino setting up Naby Keita to shoot just inside the penalty area.

The midfielder's effort took a deflection off Oliver Torres and looped its way into the back of the Porto net, giving the hosts the lead.

Mohamed Salah then missed a golden opportunity to make it 2-0 before Firmino then did the business with a strike in the 26th minute.

Firmino was on hand to take advantage of a cross from Trent Alexander-Arnold and made no mistake as he turned the ball home from close range.

Liverpool then thought they had made it 3-0, but Sadio Mane's goal was ruled out for offside by VAR.

2-0 was how it ended and Klopp was happy enough, though concerned about Liverpool giving Porto opportunities from set pieces.

"We are happy, it is the first leg and it will be an intense second game. We scored two goals and controlled the ball most of the time", he said on BT Sport after the game.

"We gave a few too many set pieces away. I think Porto score about 40% of their goals from set pieces.

"We also saw one or two counter attacks, but the rest of the game we played really well.

"We lost a little bit of direction in the second half, but there's nothing to criticise, 2-0 is a very, very good result.

"We knew we had to play the second game and we cannot decide the tie tonight, so now we have to go there and fight again."

Liverpool will head into the second leg as firm favourites to progress as they look to book a last four spot.
