Mauricio Pochettino has admitted that Harry Kane's injury, suffered during Tuesday night's 1-0 win over Manchester City, is very painful and could end his season.

Spurs secured a famous victory over Pep Guardiola's side at their new stadium, making sure they have an advantage to take to the Etihad Stadium for the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie.

But the win came at a cost as talisman Kane suffered a bad ankle injury in the second half after a challenge with Manchester City's Fabian Delph.

Pochettino admits the injury looks serious and makes no bones about the fact it was a painful one for Kane.

And he frets that it is season over for the striker.

"If you see the action, it’s an action that he maybe twists his ankle, can really damage the ligaments", the Tottenham boss told his post-match press conference.

"We need to check in the next few days. It’s so painful.

"We have to hope it’s not a big issue, but it doesn’t look good.

"Yes I worry it’s the end of his season."

Tottenham's crucial goal came 12 minutes from time when Heung-Min Son hit a low shot which beat Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson.

60,044 fans packed into Tottenham's new stadium for the Champions League game.
