Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Moussa Sissoko has conceded that he is not one of the most technical players in the world, but insisted that he has his own qualities.

Sissoko impressed in his midfield role on Tuesday night as Tottenham beat Manchester City 1-0 in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The Frenchman, who joined Tottenham from Newcastle on a deadline day move in the summer of 2016, did not initially impress Mauricio Pochettino and for a long time, he was not a major part of the Spurs’ boss plans.

However, the 29-year-old managed to force his way into Pochettino’s head and has been a much more important part of the squad this season, making 37 appearances in all competitions.

The midfielder stressed that he never lost faith in his abilities even when he was failing to convince the Tottenham boss about his qualities.

The Frenchman is acutely aware of his limitations as a footballer, but insisted that he never tried to be something he was not and has managed to contribute in his own way.

Sissoko told French radio broadcaster RMC Sport: “I had two difficult seasons here, but I continued to work.

“I continued to work, I didn’t give up and things have gone well this season.

“I have always believed in myself, my team-mates and my family and it allowed me to produce such a performance.

“I know I am not the most technical of players or one of the best in the world, but I play according to my qualities.

“I have never tried to be another person and I try to contribute my way in order to please the coach.”

Sissoko has started in five out of Tottenham’s eight Champions League games thus far this season.
