Former Leeds United star Andrew Hughes has insisted that Manchester City loanee Jack Harrison is justifying his place in the side under Marcelo Bielsa.

Harrison, who secured a season-long switch to Leeds from Manchester City last summer, has notched up 32 appearances at Elland Road in the Championship this term.

The 22-year-old holds the trust of Bielsa and played the majority of the Whites’ 2-0 win over Preston North End at Deepdale on Tuesday night.

Although Harrison did not get on the scoresheet or grab an assist in Lancashire, the winger carried out his responsibilities thoroughly on the left flank, before being replace by Gaetano Berardi after the visitors took a two-goal advantage.

And following his gritty display against Preston, Harrison was appreciated by Hughes, who insisted the Manchester City loanee is justifying his selection week in, week out under Bielsa.

The former Leeds midfielder believes that Harrison did what the manager wanted from him and stressed he is an important part of the first team at Elland Road.

“He's doing his job. He did his job tonight”, Hughes said after the match on BBC Radio Leeds.

“He did what he got asked to do.

"And he came off the pitch at 2-0.

"What more can you ask for?

“He's an important part of the club.

"He's a young man and he's learning what to do.”

Harrison has scored three goals and registered the same number of assists in the Championship this term.
