Rangers academy manager Graeme Murty has heaped praise on his team, who believes showed character to come from behind and register a win against a strong Hibernian side on Monday.

The young Gers went down 2-0 within the first ten minutes of the match, but fought back to be 2-2 before half-time.

Late in the second-half Murty's side found one more as they ended the match 3-2 and thus gave themselves hope in the race for the reserve league title.

The manager was particularly pleased with the performance of his team in the match as it came against a strong side with first-team experience.

The visitors had Premier League experience in the form of Adam Bogdan and Jonathan Spector, as well as Sporting Lisbon loanee Ryan Gauld.

While the Gers also had first-team experience, Murty was pleased because his youngsters managed to match up to the levels of the senior players and earn all three points.

“These players continue to show when they are put up against it, they can respond.

"It’s not their fault that you don’t always see a first-team come up against you like Hibs have done", Murty told his club's official website.

"But, when they were asked to respond, they showed the capacity to do that, they showed the character to do that and not a little bit of quality as well.

“There is quality all over the pitch, and having first-team players come into the group helps, but our players showed as well they can match it with the best and some of our play – yes the finishing was really good – but the intricacy and some of the one-touch stuff was really, really good."

Rangers' reserve side are currently placed fourth in the league table, though the gap between themselves and first-placed Celtic is three points.
