Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has insisted that he does not use criticism of his performances as motivation to play better.

Lloris was Tottenham’s hero on Tuesday night when he saved a crucial penalty from Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero and helped his side to a win in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie.

The Frenchman has been earning praise for his performances, but only a week earlier he was receiving a lot of brickbats for his showing against Liverpool at Anfield.

His error led to the Reds scoring a late winner and helped them to keep pace with league leaders Manchester City.

The Tottenham goalkeeper insisted that he does all the talking on the pitch and did not care much about the criticism he was receiving.

He stressed that he plays for his club and team-mates and does not use the criticism of his performances as motivation.

Lloris was quoted as saying by L’Equipe: “I answer on the pitch.

“I am not perfect, I can make mistakes but what I know what I give for the club.

"I am paid to play, they are paid to talk.

“I have no revenge to take, it is part of football. This is not a source of motivation for me.

“I play for my club, my coach, my team-mates, my family but not for those people.

“They have the right to analyse.”

Lloris has been at Tottenham since 2012 and has racked up 289 appearances for the club.
