Roma sporting director Frederic Massara has met the agent of Celtic target Timothy Castagne to express the club’s interest in the full-back.

The Atalanta defender has turned heads this season with his performances and he has been on Celtic’s radar, with the Bhoys failin with a January window swoop before turning to a loan deal for Jeremy Toljan.

However, it seems the Scottish champions may find it increasingly difficult to convince the Belgian to move to Parkhead in the coming months due to interest from big Italian clubs.

AC Milan have already been reportedly chasing the Atalanta player and it has been claimed that Roma have joined the race to sign Castagne in the summer.

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato.it, Roma deal-maker Massara has already met the player’s representative for a meeting to express the club’s formal interest in his client.

Roma have been keeping tabs on the player for several months and the club’s sporting director has moved ahead to put the wheels in motion for his pursuit.

The full-back has a contract until 2022 and Atalanta are considering the option of whether to cash in on him in the summer.

The Serie A outfit are expected to ask for a fee in excess of €15m for the 23-year-old.
