Werder Bremen will have to dig deep into their pockets if they wish to keep hold of Tottenham Hotspur target Max Kruse, but believe it is do-able.

The 31-year-old forward is approaching the end of his contract at Werder Bremen and several clubs are spying a free transfer bargain.

Mauricio Pochettino's Spurs have been linked with wanting the German, but Werder Bremen have not given up hope of convincing Kruse to put pen to paper to a fresh deal.

However, they will have to shell out a substantial sum to do so as, according to German magazine Sport Bild, between wages and a signing fee, Kruse will cost Werder Bremen €15m.

But sporting director Frank Baumann feels that a new contract for Kruse is one the Bundesliga club can afford.

"Even after the extensions of Johannes and Maximilian Eggestein, a new contract for Max Kruse is still financially possible", he insisted.

Kruse came through the ranks at Werder Bremen before leaving for St Pauli.

Further spells at Freiburg, Borussia Monchengladbach and Wolfsburg followed before he made his way back to the Weserstadion.

The forward has netted ten times in the Bundesliga for Werder Bremen so far this season, along with providing an equal number of assists.
