Donny van de Beek has admitted his perference for a semi-final meeting with Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League as Spurs have former Ajax players in their ranks.

Van De Beek, who came up through the ranks at Ajax, helped his team script history by reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League for the first time since 1997 after beating Juventus on Tuesday.

The Eredivisie giants will next face either Manchester City or Tottenham, based on the result of the second leg clash at the Etihad Stadium this evening.

Spurs hold a narrow 1-0 lead over Manchester City and Van De Beek admits it would be nice to play the north Londoners in the semi-final as they have several former Ajax players in the form of Christian Eriksen, Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen.

"I don't mind that much, but a lot of [former] Ajax players play at Spurs. That's nice”, Van De Beek told AT5, when asked who he wants to face.

The 21-year-old also revealed he is still coming to terms with the fact that Ajax beat Juventus to secure a berth in the semi-final of the Champions League on Tuesday.

"If you can do this against one of the best teams in Europe. Then you just do it very well”, he continued.

“I don't quite realise it yet.

"We are in the semi-finals with Ajax!”

Van De Beek initiated the comeback with a well-taken goal in the first half, before Matthijs de Ligt settled the tie in the second half, to knock Juventus out by an aggregate score of 3-2.
