Leeds United legend Eddie Gray has revealed his admiration for Chelsea loanee Reece James, due to his performances this season at Wigan Athletic.

The 19-year-old full-back joined the Latics on loan from Chelsea last summer and has started 41 of the 42 league games they have played so far this season.

A right-back by nature, he has also been deployed as a defensive midfielder in recent weeks and his performances this season have earned him a place in the Championship’s Team of the Year, despite playing for a team battling to avoid relegation.

Gray is impressed with what he has seen of the youngster and feels that despite being a defender, James has an eye for a goal and has been willing to create chances up front.

The Leeds legend, previewing the visit of Wigan on Good Friday, said on LUTV: “He is a good footballer.

“He has an eye for goal as well, he is willing to take chances and take shots on goal.

“He is powerful, willing to run with the ball and is a good player.”

James will be hoping to turn in another strong display to trouble Leeds at Elland Road on Good Friday.

A product of the Chelsea academy, James is on the verge of completing his first season in senior football during his loan stint at Wigan.

He is also an England youth international and has eight caps to his name for the Under-20s.
