Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa says that his side's 2-1 defeat at home against Wigan Athletic is a result which condemns his work as Whites head coach.

With the promotion race pressure firmly on, Leeds were expected to make short work of a Wigan side struggling to survive in the Championship.

Wigan were reduced to ten men as early as the 14th minute at Elland Road, while then Pablo Hernandez missed from the penalty spot.

But Leeds pulled ahead with 17 minutes on the clock through Patrick Bamford to take charge of a game they were dominating.

However, the ten men of Wigan made it 1-1 just before half time when Gavin Massey struck.

And the same man scored again in the 62nd minute to leave Leeds reeling.

Whites boss Bielsa had made two changes at half time, while he then threw Jack Clarke on with 20 minutes left, but to no avail as Leeds slipped to a defeat which mean they now trail second placed Sheffield United on goal difference.

And Bielsa is unhappy with what he saw, feeling it does not reflect well on the work he has put in on the training ground.

"Any explanation that I could give would be meaningless", he told his post match press conference.

"It’s not a game that you can analyse.

"You have games like today’s that you have to win.

"It’s not the point to give an explanation because the result tells a lot about me.

"And condemns seriously my work."

The Leeds boss insists that while he could look for a reason for the defeat, he cannot in any way justify it as Leeds had to win.

"If I look for reasons, explanations I will find in the game how to explain what happened, but you have no explanation that could justify a loss like today’s loss.

"We had to win this game and it was a game that we could have won. And we didn’t win it.

"When you analyse the arguments that describe the game would give a different feeling than the reality."
