Rangers legend Derek Ferguson feels Alfredo Morelos has let his team-mates down and insists the Gers must not put him straight back into the team when he returns from suspension.

Morelos, who picked up a red card after lashing out at Scott Brown during the Old Firm derby defeat to Celtic last month, is currently serving a four-match suspension.

And although he is due to be available for selection before the final Old Firm clash of the season next month, Ferguson has insisted Rangers must not put him straight back into the team.

The ex-Ger feels Morelos has let down many people with his disciplinary issues on the pitch and believes Rangers should leave him out for a bit to see how they can cope without his services.

Ferguson also added the Rangers attack looked promising with Jermain Defoe and Scott Arfield in the last couple of games and pointed to the fact that sometimes other players perform better without Morelos.

“He has let people down, that’s first and foremost”, Ferguson said on Open Goal.

“I just think he got ahead of himself and if he thinks he can get straight into that team, I think just leave him out for a wee bit and let’s see how Rangers go on [without him].

“There was a nice balance to Rangers with [Jermain] Defoe up there and [Scott] Arfield getting past him.

"So sometimes other players show up a little bit better.

"No, I wouldn’t put him straight back into the team.”

Morelos, who could be the subject of interest from potential suitors across Europe in the summer, has scored 29 goals and registered 11 assists in all competitions for Rangers this term.
