Unai Emery is delighted that his Arsenal side showed the strength of personality to deal with the hostile atmosphere at Napoli on Thursday night.

Arsenal won the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final tie at home 2-0 last week and were favourites to go through at Napoli’s expense before the second leg in Italy.

An Alexandre Lacazette goal in the 36th minute more or less ended the tie in the first half of the second leg and Arsenal qualified for the semi-finals of the competition comfortably.

Emery is unsure whether it was the best Arsenal performance under him but admits that it was wonderful to see his side win and get a clean sheet at a difficult place such as the Stadio San Paolo.

He admits that the atmosphere was distinctly hostile in Italy and says his players showed the personality need to step up and produce a result and performance.

Emery said in a press conference: “I don't know if it's our best performance but it's good after our victory on Monday at Watford and the difficult match.

“To repeat against Napoli in the second leg, keeping our clean sheet and also winning against a very big team, for us what was most important was continuing with our work and being consistent.

“Our objective is to improve, being consistent in our way.

"Having our 1,100 supporters here with us gave us an atmosphere of joy.

“There was a big atmosphere against us but our team showed big personality.”

Arsenal will be in league action on Sunday when they will host Crystal Palace at the Emirates.
