Aston Villa are like a juggernaut at present and will be tough to stop in the playoffs, former Leeds United forward Noel Whelan says.

Leeds are fighting for second place with Sheffield United, something which would remove the need to navigate the playoffs in search of promotion to the Premier League.

But with the race a tight one, some Whites fans have begun to wonder what going through the playoffs would be like for Marcelo Bielsa's side.

Whelan thinks there are some good sides currently sitting in the playoff places, but flagged up Aston Villa, who he feels look like a juggernaut at present.

"You know the teams that are in there and they are really difficult teams", Whelan said on BBC Radio Leeds following Leeds' loss against Wigan.

"You look at Villa and they are just now like a juggernaut.

"They are hard to stop.

"They've got quality in abundance at that club and they would probably say that they've underachieved this season with the players that they have at their disposal.

"But they are coming good at the right time."

Dean Smith's side have won their last nine Championship games on the spin and played out a 2-0 victory away at Bolton Wanderers on Good Friday.

They could still have a say over Leeds' automatic promotion hopes as they are due to visit Elland Road in the penultimate game of the season.
