Sunderland boss Jack Ross has urged the Black Cats not to feel sorry for themselves after dropping points at Peterborough United and look to win their three remaining League One games.

The Black Cats have dropped five points in their last three matches and find themselves in a tricky situation, being placed fourth and facing the prospect of missing out on an automatic promotion place.

With three matches remaining to salvage their automatic hopes, Ross' side are now looking at three wins in their next three matches, with the manager calling for it as a minimum to see where it takes his team.

Ross also took time to insist that Sunderland have just two options in front of them – either to feel sorry for themselves or regroup and go again, and his side are going to opt for the second option.

“We have put a lot into this season and we want to get our rewards for it", Ross told his club's official website.

“At this stage, we have two choices. We can either feel sorry for ourselves or we can regroup and go again.

“The lads will be ready to go on Saturday because we have got another big game.

"We came into this block of five games looking to win every single one.

“Unfortunately, we’ve dropped two on the road and now it’s been taken out of our hands.

"All we can do is win our remaining three and see where it takes us.”

Matters do not get any easier for Sunderland this weekend when third placed Portsmouth visit the Stadium of Light.
