Pep Guardiola has tipped his hat to Liverpool, but is pleased that Manchester City now have the fate of the Premier League title in their own hands after a 2-0 win at Old Trafford.

Following a goalless first half against Manchester United, Guardiola's side eased up the gears and scored twice in the second 45 minutes.

Goals from Bernardo Silva (54th minute) and Leroy Sane (66th minute) killed off a Manchester United side that rarely threatened, despite home advantage.

Manchester City have now gone one point clear at the top of the Premier League, with both the Citizens and Liverpool having just three matches left.

Guardiola believes that Manchester United put in a determined performance, but insists he expected no less following their 4-0 loss at Everton.

"We play with a lot of pressure. They were play for Champions League qualification", Guardiola told the BBC.

"After their 4-0 defeat by Everton, we knew their players would be committed.

We lost some balls in the middle of the pitch in the first half and they had counter attacks.

"We did well to win the game in the second half. Fortunately we made an incredible second half."

The Spaniard is now happy that Manchester City have the fate of the title in their own hands, but took time to praise Liverpool for continuing to push his side.

"We increased the level for the Premier League last season with 100 points. That’s the level.

"Liverpool are chasing. What they have done is incredible but it’s in our hands.

"Going to Burnley will be tough and trying to play our game."
