Paris Saint-Germain have beaten off late interest from Athletic Bilbao in Ander Herrera, who will join on a four or five year contract in the summer.

Herrera is approaching the end of his contract at Manchester United and has been linked with a switch to PSG.

However, it was claimed that Athletic Bilbao had made an entry into the race in order to take the Spaniard back to La Liga.

But, according to French radio station RMC, Athletic Bilbao's offer arrived too late.

Relatives of Herrera have confirmed that the Spanish club did come in for the midfielder, but insist they were too late, with the Manchester United man having already agreed to join PSG.

Herrera has already thrashed out personal terms with the French champions and will move to the Parc des Princes.

The midfielder has not yet put pen to paper to his contract with PSG, however it is claimed only not to have happened due to the fact the length of the deal has not yet been finalised.

Herrera will sign a contract running for either four or five years in Paris.
