Atletico Madrid are interested in assessing the possibility of signing Chelsea loan star Gonzalo Higuain in the summer.

Higuain joined Chelsea on an expensive loan from Juventus in the January transfer window and the Blues have an option to extend his stay for one more year.

But the Argentine has struggled to adapt to his new surroundings in England and despite the support of Maurizio Sarri, the club are reportedly unwilling to keep Higuain beyond the end of the season.

The 31-year-old is also unwelcome at Juventus and the Italian champions are again expected to put him on the market if he returns to the club in the summer.

And according to Italian outlet TuttoJuve, Higuain could have a buyer in Spain as Atletico Madrid are considering the possibility of signing the striker in the summer.

With Antoine Griezmann’s future again under consideration, the club are already putting in plans in place if the Frenchman decides to leave the club at the end of the season.

Higuain has emerged as an option and Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone is keen to take his compatriot to the Wanda Metropolitano in the summer.

It remains to be seen if Chelsea do not get a reprieve on their transfer ban whether they would consider keeping the Argentine at the club.
