Real Madrid have identified Ajax’s Donny van de Beek as a potential alternative to Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba this summer.

Pogba has been identified by Zinedine Zidane as the club’s top target for the upcoming transfer window and the Real Madrid boss has been pushing the club to land his countryman.

Pogba is also believed to be keen to leave Manchester United and join the Spanish giants ahead of the start of next season.

But Manchester United are not willing to sell and Pogba’s current wage demands could break the salary structure at Real Madrid if they sign him.

According to Spanish daily Marca, the Real Madrid recruitment team have suggested the name of Van de Beek to Zidane as a potential replacement target for Pogba.

The Dutchman has impressed in this season’s Champions League and he has piqued the interest of clubs such as Chelsea, Tottenham, Paris Saint-Germain and Inter.

Van de Beek is rated by Real Madrid as similar to Pogba’s profile and is likely to be a cheaper option than the Manchester United midfielder.

It remains to be seen whether Zidane is willing to accept a compromise if Real Madrid fail to land Pogba.
