Everton director of football Marcel Brands has rubbished reports claiming that the Toffees are interested in Ajax's David Neres and PSV Eindhoven's Hirving Lozano.

The Goodison Park-based club spent big money last summer to land Richarlison from Watford and the player has been impressive for the club this season, finding the back of the net 13 times in 35 league matches.

Everton are expected to again look to strengthen their attacking options in the summer window, which is rapidly approaching, and have been linked with Neres and Lozano, two claims Brands has now played down.

"That [players being linked] always happens during this period", Brands told Dutch broadcaster NOS.

"I read about Neres, I read about Lozano. You name them. But we have no contact with these players."

Brands had to wheel and deal in Dutch football and has more money at his disposal at Everton. But the director of football insists with more money comes more responsibility for spending it.

"The fact that you can spend money means that you have to be much more careful.

"If you make a mistake here, you will hardly be able to get rid of them.

"Players earn a lot of money and there are not many clubs that can handle such salaries or transfer fees."

Brands is expected to play a key role in helping reshape Everton's squad over the summer as they look to make further progress next season.
