Anfield Has Magic About It, Newcastle United Star Warns Barcelona

Newcastle United defender Javier Manquillo has warned Barcelona that Anfield has a magic of its own and feels the Reds’ best chance of a comeback in the second leg of their Champions League tie depends on it.

Jurgen Klopp’s men shift their focus back to the Champions League semi-finals this evening, as they aim to pull off a miraculous comeback against Barcelona at Anfield.

The Reds were handed a damaging 3-0 defeat during the first leg at Nou Camp last week and will need to pull off one of the performances of the season to overturn a huge deficit.

However, Liverpool are expected to be backed by a raucous support at Anfield in a bid to try and spur the team towards their second consecutive Champions League final.

And as such, Newcastle defender Manquillo insists that Liverpool’s hopes of a comeback rest heavily on Anfield and the magic it possesses on European nights like the one coming up against Barcelona.

“The Anfield stadium has magic and if there is any option for a comeback for Liverpool it is there”, the Newcastle man told Spanish radio station Onda Cero's El Transistor programme.

The former Liverpool loan star also believes the fans at Anfield would rather prefer to win the Premier League before they get their hands on the Champions League.

“[The fans at Anfield would] prefer to win the Premier League before the Champions League”, he added.

Liverpool, who are just a single point behind Manchester City in the Premier League title race, will face Wolves at home on the final day of the season after their meeting with Barcelona.

Manquillo's Newcastle meanwhile sit in 14th spot, having secured Premier League football for another yet.
