Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen was spotted leaving the Johan Cruyff ArenA on crutches with his right ankle in a protective casing on Wednesday night.

The Belgian defender completed the full 90 minutes in Tottenham’s epic last-minute win over Ajax, which took them to the Champions League final on away goals.

However, disturbing injury news has emerged from the game as it seems the centre-back has picked up a serious injury somewhere during the 90 minutes against Ajax.

Footage emerging from Belgian broadcaster VTM Nieuws has revealed that the Vertonghen left the stadium on crutches with his right ankle in protective casing.

It is unclear when or where he sustained the injury but there are fears that he has damaged his ankle ligaments.

With Champions League football secured for next season, Tottenham are expected to rest the big guns for their last league game of the season on Sunday.

But the club are sweating over Vertonghen's injury and are in a race against time to get him fit before the Champions League final against Liverpool on 1st June.

Mauricio Pochettino would ideally love to have his first choice defence fit to face the attacking threat of a rampaging Liverpool side.
