Former Celtic star Frank McAvennie believes the time has come for Mikel Lustig to depart Celtic Park.

The Swedish full-back is out of contract at the end of the season and his future remains unclear, amid interest from several clubs in his homeland.

Lustig has been handed game time by Neil Lennon towards the end of the campaign, with the defender now having clocked 42 appearances across all competitions for Celtic this term.

But despite the defender continuing to feature for Celtic, McAvennie believes he has reached the end of his hugely successful time at Celtic Park.

"I think he's been great for Celtic, outstanding and to be fair since Lennon came back in he's been taking free-kicks, doing everything", McAvennie said on Open Goal, when asked about Lustig.

"But I just think he's getting by his best and Celtic need to get youngsters in.

"Not a slight on Mikel, but I think his time's up", he added.
