Leeds United supremo Andrea Radrizzani has hit back at criticism of him inviting Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini to Elland Road.

Salvini posed with a Leeds scarf and Radrizzani reacted to the photograph on social media, welcoming the politician to come and watch the Whites play at their home ground.

Some Leeds fans chose to criticise Radrizzani and the Italian has now replied.

The Leeds chairman insists that he was making no political statement with his response to the photograph and was simply happy to see that the Whites are popular in Italy.

He also took issue with anything being read into his comments.

Radrizzani wrote: "I didn’t make any political comment and I was just excited to see our club being popular in my country.

"Why everything has always to mean something else?

"Goodnight and enjoy."

Salvini currently serves as the deputy prime minister and the minister of the interior in Italy's government.

It remains to be seen if the 46-year-old will attend Elland Road to watch Radrizzani's Leeds in action.
