Derby County midfielder Bradley Johnson has urged his team-mates to get an early goal when they make the trip to Elland Road for the second leg of their Championship playoff semi-final against Leeds United.

Kemar Roofe’s 55th-minute strike secured a 1-0 win for Marcelo Bielsa's side at Pride Park on Saturday, handing them an advantage heading into the second leg.

The Rams found themselves dominated by Leeds on home turf, but the deficit is still a slender one.

Frank Lampard's side were beaten 2-0 in their last visit to Elland Road, but Johnson, who played for the Whites between 2008 and 2011, has insisted there is plenty to play for.

Talking to Rams TV ahead of Wednesday's crucial second leg, the 32-year-old said: "Everyone says the old cliche, ‘it’s only half-time’, we know if we get an early goal then it is back to square one and anybody’s game.

"Going there we are confident that we can do it.

"We have spoken about it a little bit but forgotten about what has happened and all the focus is on Wednesday now.
