Arsenal have slapped in a bid for Argentine centre-back Walter Kannemann, as they bid to push past Italian clubs Inter and Sampdoria in the race for his signature, it has been claimed.

The Gunners, who will be reportedly operating with a transfer budget of just £40m (€45m) if they fail to secure Champions League football by winning the Europa League, are looking for summer recruits.

Boss Unai Emery wants another centre-back and he appears to have zeroed in on Kannemann, an Argentine defender who plies his trade in Brazil at Gremio.

Arsenal have firmed up their interest with a bid, according to Italian outlet Calciomercato.it.

It is claimed that Arsenal have put in an offer of €12m, plus bonuses, as they aim to wrap up the signing of the 28-year-old Brazilian top flight star.

The Gunners have yet to hear back from Gremio, who are evaluating the proposal from the Emirates Stadium.

Kannemann has been linked with Italian pair Sampdoria and Inter, and it remains to be seen if either will react to Arsenal's move by placing their own bid.

A product of the San Lorenzo youth set-up, Kannemann has been capped by Argentina at international level, while he has also plied his trade in Mexico at Atlas.
