Ajax technical director Marc Overmars has made it clear that Tottenham Hotspur linked midfielder Donny van de Beek is a player the club do not want to lose this summer.

The Dutch midfielder has come on leaps and bounds this season and his performances in Ajax’s run to the Champions League semi-final were noticed by many.

Van de Beek’s future has come under the scanner following Ajax’s league title-winning celebrations as he has piqued the interest of several clubs in Europe ahead of the summer.

Tottenham are one of the clubs who are believed to be interested in getting their hands on Van de Beek, if Christian Eriksen leaves, but it seems Ajax are prepared to resist the temptation to sell him.

Overmars indicated that the club are planning to offer him a better contract in the coming days in light of his development this season and they do not want to lose the midfielder this summer.

The Ajax technical director told Dutch daily De Telegraaf: “Van de Beek has gone through a stormy development and for that, he must be rewarded.

“We don’t want to lose him.”

Van de Beek has also emerged as an alternative target to Paul Pogba for Real Madrid and Ajax may have their determination to hold on to him tested.
