Former Bundesliga striker Jan Aage Fjortoft has insisted that Manchester United’s ambition of signing Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho in the summer transfer window is doomed.

Manchester United have identified the young England winger as their top attacking target and have been prepared to pay in excess of £100m for him this summer.

Sancho was initially prepared to consider a move back to England and Manchester United were believed to be his preferred choice in the Premier League.

But the player is now reluctant to move to an unstable club without Champions League football and Manchester United are fast losing hope of convincing him to leave Dortmund this summer.

Fjortoft believes signing Sancho was always going to be a tough ask for Manchester United this summer as at Dortmund, Sancho is fighting for top honours, while the Red Devils are looking to rebuild.

The former Bundesliga man took to Twitter and wrote: “Man United hopes of signing Sancho was never very realistic.

“He is a very vital part of a Dortmund team who wants to win trophies now and in the future.”

It remains to be seen whether Manchester United continue to pursue Sancho or move on to other targets.
