Celtic boss Neil Lennon has called his captain Scott Brown a modern-day great and believes the 33-year-old does not always get the recognition he deserves.

The Glasgow outfit welcome Hearts to Celtic Park for their final Scottish Premiership game of the season on Sunday afternoon.

Having already secured the Scottish title, Sunday's league encounter does not have anything tangible at stake, but the hosts will certainly aim to keep the party going by picking up all three points in front of their supporters.

Ahead of the weekend encounter, Lennon, who is yet to be appointed permanently, took time to celebrate his captain, reserving special praise for his exemplary leadership over the last nine years.

Speaking to Celtic's official website the 47-year-old said: "I also think Scott Brown is a modern-day great. He’s been one of the best players here for 25 years.

"He’s been leading the club for nine years. That’s a big responsibility and he’s carried it brilliantly. His influence, his quality of play, his personality.

"He reads the game brilliantly. His athleticism is brilliant, even at 33, and he’s got better with age.

"We wouldn’t have won a lot of games without Scott Brown, and I think that gets underplayed."

Following Sunday's Premiership encounter, Celtic will once again meet Hearts in the Scottish Cup final on 25th May.
