Manchester United are still a potential destination for Ajax captain Matthijs de Ligt, who has not ruled out moving to Old Trafford this summer, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The 19-year-old centre-back is considered by many to be an outstanding defensive talent and led Ajax to a league title and a Champions League semi-final appearance this season.

Ajax have already conceded that De Ligt could leave and he has several offers on his table to consider during the summer transfer window.

Barcelona have long been considered the favourites to sign the young central defender, but there are suggestions Manchester United are in the race to sign him.

It is claimed the thought of moving to Manchester United and becoming the poster boy of their rebuild appeals to De Ligt and his camp.

Manchester United are claimed to be looking for strong characters in the transfer market, apart from natural ability and believe signing the Dutchman would be a great start to their rebuilding process.

They are not the favourites to land him yet, but Barcelona are believed to be concerned about losing out on De Ligt as Manchester United can better any financial package on offer from the Camp Nou.
