Newcastle United and Rafael Benitez are expected to continue talks over the next 48 hours, according to Sky Sports News.

There is no clarity over whether Benitez will be staying at St. James' Park into next season and he has been linked with the managerial post at Celtic.

Benitez is looking to establish how Newcastle intend to move forward and see if it matches his own vision for the Magpies.

The Spaniard has been left unhappy with the backing he has received in the transfer market and it remains to be seen if Newcastle can give him the assurances he is seeking.

Talks with owner Mike Ashley have taken place in London, spilling over into today, and are expected to now continue over the next 48 hours.

Newcastle fans are desperate for Benitez to stay, but the Spaniard is looking at the situation closely.

Should the former Real Madrid and Liverpool boss opt to move on, he is not likely to be short of offers.
