Torino believe they need to qualify for the Europa League to convince Tottenham Hotspur target Soualiho Meite to stay at the club beyond the summer.

Meite, who made the switch to Serie A from Monaco last summer, has featured prominently across all competitions for Il Toro so far this season.

As such, the 25-year-old has emerged as a potential target for Tottenham in the summer, as they aim to strengthen their squad during the transfer window.

And according to Italian outlet Calcio Mercato, Torino are fearful of losing Meite and feel they will need to qualify for the Europa League to have any hope of convincing him to stay.

It is claimed that Torino have no intention of cashing in Meite, but the player has no shortage of potential suitors who want to snare him away from Turin this summer.

And it is believed that convincing Meite to overlook the interest from elsewhere and remain in Turin would become difficult without European football next season.

Coach Walter Mazzari would ideally want to retain Meite and several others ahead of the upcoming season, but whether or not Europa League football is secured will matter in his quest.

Torino are currently just two points adrift of the Europa League qualification berths occupied by AC Milan and Roma in Serie A.

The Turin-based outfit have locked down Meite to a contract that runs until the summer of 2023.
